But I Never Win Anything!

So, last night, at my company summer party, there was a raffle. I was surprised when my name was drawn for a "DVD gift bag," one of about 20 smaller prizes being given away. At the end of the smaller prizes, everyone's name went back into the bowl, and three bigger prizes were drawn. I actually won the grand prize- a $500 Amex gift card! Whoopie!

There are so many things I could use that money for: theatre tickets, a J. Crew shopping spree, airfare to Charleston when Greg goes down to Nuke School. But the money will stay tucked in a drawer until we need it for the wedding.

I've always been somewhat frugal, (at least since I stopped blowing all my babysitting money on craft supplies to take babysitting again!) but I've really tightened my belt over the past few months. My rent has gone up, and I'm trying to save for the wedding. I'm planning on moving home at the end of this year to save some money, so that will help, and last night's windfall certainly doesn't hurt! Greg and I won't see each other much over the six months while he's in Charleston- travel to S.C. is expensive, and he won't have much free time.

I guess the big money thing is that when we get married, I'll leave my job in the city and try to find something in Ballston Spa. I'm really not sure what I'll do up there, especially since we'll only be there for six months. Our next move, to Groton, CT, will be for less than three months, which will include Thanksgiving and Christmas, so I'll probably find a job wrapping packages in a shop somewhere. At least I have retail experience on my resume! Who knew that would actually make my life easier at some point?

In any case, maybe I'll buy a great new pair of jeans- that's always an easy way to feel like a million bucks, even if you've only spent $75.
