Calling All Old Friends

Thank God it's Friday!

Greg stopped by my parents' house in New Rochelle to pick up my suitcase this morning. He's driving down to Annapolis today, then will meet me tomorrow evening in Newport News. (I'm flying down... oye!) The next day, we'll meet up with 2 other guys from Branford (George and Bill) and drive to Kill Devil Hill on the Outer Banks of North Carolina.

This it the house we've rented

We're travelling with a bunch of Greg's friends from home, and it's going to be a blast. His friends (who have become mine, too!) are a lot of fun- smart, funny, and warm. They've really taken me in to their group, which is fantastic.

The fact that Greg's group of H.S. friends is in-tact (with a very few notable exceptions :-) ) amazes me. We're travelling with 12 people- 12! And that's not even the whole group!

I've really only kept in touch with 2 people from high school- my friends Ellen and Kate. Ellen is off in L.A. working in TV and film and having all sorts of cool experiences. Kate got married last summer to a man from England and has moved across the pond to be with him. Kate also keeps a blog- you can click on the link under my profile- and uses it to keep in touch with people from home. Actually, it was Katie's brilliant idea of using a blog to stay in touch with people that inspired me to start one of my own, so thanks Kate!

Actually, this blog has already started me on that path. I got an IM from my friend Jamie yesterday. We went to middle and high school together, and have been in touch occationally since. We somehow always manage to get in touch on birthdays, and when her dog and my cat died. (The really odd thing is that neither of us knew that the other had lost both of their paternal grandparents in the past few years!) Well, anyway, Jamie saw the link to my blog and IMed me yesterday and we talked for an hour, which was really nice. She recently started a new blog, the link to which I've added to my "friends' blogs" section. Check it out!

I'm hoping that more people will read this blog and drop me a line, especially when I leave the area and find myself (potentially) lonely when Greg is out on deployment. So if you're reading this, post a comment! Especially if we haven't talked in a while! I promise I'll get back to you. Chances are that if you've been interested in hearing about the ongoings and antics of my life enough to read my blog, I'm interested in hearing what you've been up to, too!
